It's Monday! What are you reading? was started by Sheila at Book Journey and was adapted for children's books from picture books through YA by Jen of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers. You can visit either site for a round up of blogs sharing their weekly readings and thoughts or search Twitter for #IMWAYR. (Don't you love the updated logo?)
Last Week's Posts
- #3rdfor3rd: Cricket in Times Square. Seamus recommends this book to people that like books where the characters change.
- #3rdfor3rd: My Weird School series. Third grader Aakash loves the craziness of this creative series!
Picture Books
Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld. Last week's Global Read Aloud pick highlights the power of discovering your inner possibilities and figuring out how to leave your unique "mark" on the world. The kids enjoyed the humor and puns of the story, but we also had a solid discussion about what it means to leave your mark.
Nonfiction Books
The Travel Book and Adventures around the Globe, published by Lonely Planet. I read and reviewed these two books this past week (you can read the full review here). The Travel Book has a jam-packed page of facts and cool details about every country in the world. Adventures Around the Globe is an activity/sticker book with some facts but mostly activities to keep a kid busy. The Travel Book has become a big hit in my classroom. (There's still time to enter the giveaway as part of the review post!)

Happy Reading!
I used last week to try to read some of the new, popular books that I have gathered but didn't have as review copies. Soon I'll be starting my next crop of review books. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy. I feel like I am terribly behind with 'best of' books this year. Time to get readin'!
DeleteI would have ADORED those Lonely Planet books when I was kid - I used to spend hours looking at atlases and dreaming of all sorts of exciting far-away places.
ReplyDeleteExactly! I have a lot of those kinds of students, so it's been fun to vicariously experience these books through them too!
DeleteI thought that Exclamation Mark just might be one of the only Amy Krouse Rosenthal we don't have in our library. Then I checked Goodreads before ordering a copy only to discover I have read it. I also discovered we have it in our library. How could I forget a book like this???
ReplyDeleteShe just has SO many good ones! The kids really enjoyed this one a lot too.
DeleteAmy Krouse Rosenthal's books are so wonderful. We love the layers of meaning in her books.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. They've been great for class discussions as well.
