#SOL17 Small Gratitudes or "Sanity Savers" 15/31

2017 is the tenth year of the Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted by Two Writing Teachers, The goal is to write and post a "slice of life" story every day during the month of March. My seventh graders are also participating in a slimmed down version of the challenge, writing 10 slices during the month.

Slice of Life: Small Gratitudes

(With thanks to similar posts from Amy, Mainer in TrainingElisabeth, and others.)

I've been working on this list on-and-off again over this week. Some of the small things that I am grateful for include

  • Pilot P-500 pens (20-year streak at this point)
  • Unexpected ARCs of books appearing on my porch
  • No first period on Tuesdays and stopping by a coffee shop instead of heading straight in to work
  • Library books delivered to a check-out shelf that I can come and scoop up in one fell swoop
  • A kitten who follows you around until you sit and give him a lap
  • Rereading a favorite book and falling back in love with the characters and the story
  • The brilliant shade of orange tones across our family room when the sun gets low
  • Used book sales and the promise of treasures
  • Seeing a nearly full moon set in the morning in exchange for daylight savings time
  • Joining a new book club
  • The promise of snow days (even when they don't pan out)
  • Books, books, and more books

What tiny things help keep you happy and sane?

  1. I wrote a slice about things & people I was grateful for, but not the tiny things. What a great idea! New page in my writer's notebook! Thanks for sharing! I love rereading favorite books too.

    1. Thanks, Jen! I just re-read Tuck Everlasting today, as I am having a group of kids read it. Love, love, love.

  2. Yes to them all! I love rereading books, and book clubs, and the nearly full moon in the morning that we'd miss if not for DST.

  4. A list of small things can tell a lot about a person. Thanks for sharing. Love the line about brilliant shade of orange tones...
Grateful for - quiet hikes with the dog as the sun sets.

  5. This post makes me want to reread a favorite book. I so rarely reread! Not sure why I deny myself this very deep pleasure. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Small Gratitudes format! My campus library will deliver library books directly to my office, which is such a special treat!
