Last Week's Posts
- Mock Newbery Contenders: 2016, part 2: realistic. This second in a series of three posts introduces the realistic books in our school's Mock Newbery, including historical fiction, biography, and contemporary realistic fiction. So many great choices!
- Mock Newbery Contenders: 2016, part 3: TBR. The third and final post in our Mock Newbery list includes those titles that are still on my To Be Read (TBR) list. I'm hoping to finish several over the rest of winter break.
- Diverse Books for Children: favorite holidays books. This linkup is running through all of December, and the theme is favorite holiday books.
Young Adult
As my students' study of Latin America in Social Studies moves forward towards the present day, our librarian and I are working on putting together a list of books for them to read that provide insights into this time period. This is definitely one I will be adding.
Happy Reading!
I must admit that I know shamefully little about Latin American history, it simply wasn't an area that received a lot of attention when I was a student. I think I would benefit.from this story as much, if not more so, than your students!
ReplyDeleteI've included Before We Were Free before in my Children's and Adolescent Lit courses (back when I still assigned titles--now it's all free reading). Very good novel!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your Mock Newbery links! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in your reading list when you have it put together. Would you be willing to share? I'd like to have something like that for our library.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this text! I am always looking for good Hispanic authors to read :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you for your Mock Newbery list--many of them are on my club's list, but some are not, so thank you for sharing!
Happy reading this week :)
